GOES Sounder Assimilation Code Delivered to NCEP: A cloud assimilation routine to incorporate the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) Sounder cloud product into the regional Eta Data Assimilation System (EDAS) was discussed with the Mesoscale Modeling Team within the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP).  The software changes to the EDAS that are required to test the cloud assimilation scheme were also delivered to NCEP.  Final testing and implementation will be completed by NCEP. Preliminary tests of hourly GOES sounder cloud data  show improved Eta cloud forecasts in the 00 to 06 hour time frame. (J. Jung, CIMSS, 301-763-8204).
