Presentation at the University of Wisconsin Space Place:  E. Prins gave a presentation titled "Tracking Fires from 22,000 Miles Above the Earth" at the University of Wisconsin Space Place on Tuesday, October 8.  The UW Space Place is a community outreach education center run by the UW Astronomy Department's Space Astronomy Laboratory.  It specializes in astronomy and space science.  The primary purpose of the Space Place is to encourage students and the general public to learn, think, and talk about space science and research.   (E. Prins, E/RA2, 608-263-6607)

NOAA E-Learning Sampled: One of the courses from the relatively new e-learning capability at NOAA was completed. The course was entitled: "Self-development: Improving your memory" under the personal development category. Although much of the material and suggestions for organization were familiar and followed from common sense, the motivation, legitimacy, and opportunity to follow up and put ideas into practice are very much welcome. Piles of folders on the student's desk, a huge volume of e-mail messages, and lackluster use of the student's calendar are all evidence of the type of information overload that the e-course addresses.  (G. Wade, E/RA2, 608-263-4743)

Presentations at the McIDAS Users Group Meeting:  On Thursday, October 10, E. Prins gave an invited presentation at the Man computer Interactive Data Access System (McIDAS) Users' Group Meeting held at Union South on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus.  Her talk was titled "Automated Monitoring of Biomass Fires Using Geostationary Satellite Data and McIDAS".  R. Aune gave an invited talk titled "Initializing Forecast Models with Satellite Data".  T. Schmit also participated in the MUG meeting.  (E. Prins, E/RA2, 608-263-6607, R. Aune, E/RA2, 608-262-1071, T. Schmit, E/RA2, 608-263-0291)
