Li Visits China's National Satellite Meteorological Center:  Jun Li visited the National Satellite Meteorological Center (NSMC) of China from August 17-18 and gave a seminar titled "GOES Sounder - the current status and future plans".  He spoke on how to optimally use the current GOES Sounder radiances in forecast by accounting for the high temporal resolution into retrieval.  He also discussed with NSMC scientists how to improve the navigation of the GOES-9 imager. (J. Li, CIMSS, 608-262-3755)

International Radiation Symposium in Korea: Jun Li attended the International Radiation Symposium (IRS2004) held in Pusan, Korea August 23-28, 2004 and gave a presentation titled "Retrieval of cloud properties from MODIS and AIRS observations".  His talk focused on how to synergistically use imager with high spatial resolution and sounder with high spectrally resolution for retrieving the cloud properties such as cloud-top pressure, cloud optical thickness, cloud particle size, etc.  (J. Li, CIMSS, 608-262-3755)

VISITORS:

National Research Council Program Administrator Visit: Judith Nyquist, the Deputy Directory of the National Reseach Council (NRC) Fellowships Office, visited the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) on August 23, 2004.  She met with the Jeff Key, Tim Schmit, Bob Aune, Gary Wade (Advanced Satellite Products Team) and Tom Achtor (CIMSS) to discuss the potential and process of having NRC postdoctoral fellows and visiting scientists at CIMSS.  (J.
