Polar Winds in the Antarctic Sun: An article on weather forecasting in Antarctica, including the potential impact of the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) polar winds product, was published in the Antarctic Sun, the local "newspaper" at McMurdo Station, Antarctica on November 7, 2004.  The article, titled "How's the weather? Science Talk on Polar Winds at McMurdo Station: M. Lazzara (Space Science and Engineering Center, SSEC) and J. Key gave a joint presentation for the Wednesday Science Lecture series at McMurdo Station, Antarctica.  The talk was titled "Unlocking the Secrets of Antarctic Meteorology: Clouds, Fog, and Polar Winds".  J. Key spoke on satellite-derived polar winds.  The lecture was very well attended.  (J. Key, E/RA2, 608-263-2605)

SPIE 4th International Asia-Pacific Environmental Remote Sensing Symposium:  Jun Li attended the SPIE 4th International Asia-Pacific Environmental Remote Sensing Symposium held November 8-11 2004 in Honolulu, Hawaii and gave a talk entitled "Vertical resolution study on the GOES-R Hyperspectral Environmental Suite (HES)". Extended abstracts Submitted to the American Meteorological Society 85th Annual meeting:  Three extended abstracts entitled "Retrieval of cloud microphysics from blended MODIS cloud products and AIRS radiance measurements",  "Trade-off study on vertical resolution for high spectral resolution sounder",  and "Current and future imager capability on cloud classification using MODIS", were submitted to the AMS 85th annual meeting to be held from January 9-13, 2005 in San Diego, California.  The co-authors are Fang Wang, Jun Li, Timothy J. Schmit, Zhenglong Li, Chian-Yi Liu, W. Paul Menzel, and James J. Gurka.  (Jun Li, CIMSS, 608-262-3755)
