Assistance Provided
to Meteorologists on Kwajalein Atoll: In response to
a customer request,
Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies
(CIMSS) and Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) personnel
provided assistance to meteorologists working for 3D Research
Corporation on Kwajalein Atoll, in the Marshall Islands.
Specifically, the Kwajalein meteorologists requested access to
Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-10 Sounder
Cloud Top Pressure (CTP) and Effective Cloud Amount (ECA) data situated
over Kauaii, in the Hawaiian Islands, to be used in their support of a
mission being conducted there in March, 2005. (J. Nelson,

Aerosol Products
Now in PATMOS-x Processing: The Office of Research and
Applications AVHRR Pathfinder Atmospheres Extended (PATMOS-x) project
involves reprocessing of Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer
(AVHRR) data. PATMOS-x is comprised of many algorithms developed
within NESDIS. Recently, Alex Ignatov delivered to Andrew Heidinger a
set of aerosol optical depth lookup tables for all historical AVHRR
sensors that are consistent with those used in NESDIS operations
today. The mean and standard deviation of the aerosol optical
depths from the 0.63 and 0.86 micron channels are now included in the
PATMOS-x data stream (1982-2005). The inclusion of aerosol optical
thickness greatly increases the utility of this data for climate

Submitted to 14th International TOVS Science Conference:
Four abstracts entitled "Improvement on sounding retrievals from GOES
Sounder measurements", "An optimal cloud-clearing method for AIRS
radiances using MODIS", "Synergistic use of HES and HES for atmospheric
sounding and cloud property retrieval", and "Application of the GOES-R
HES (Hyperspectral Environmental Suite) Infrared measurements", have
been submitted to the 14th International TIROS Operational Vertical
Sounder (TOVS) Study Conference (ITSC-14), to be held in Beijing May
25-31, 2005. Authors include Jun Li, Timothy J. Schmit, Chian-Yi
