Paper on Recent
Innovations in Wind Retrievals Published: A paper titled "Recent
Innovations in Deriving Tropospheric Winds from Meteorological
Satellites" has been published in the Bulletin
of the American Meteorological Society (February 2004).
The paper was co-authored by Christopher Velden (Cooperative Institite
for Meteorological Satellite Studies, CIMSS), Jaime Daniels (NESDIS),
David Stettner (CIMSS), David Santek (CIMSS), Jeff Key (NESDIS), Jason
Dunion (University of Miami), Kenneth Holmlund (EUMETSAT), Gail Dengel
(CIMSS), Wayne Bresky (Raytheon Technology and Scientific Services),
and Paul Menzel (NESDIS). The paper describes several new innovations
in satellite-produced wind technologies, derivation methodologies, and

entitled "Optimal cloud-clearing for AIRS radiances using MODIS" has
been accepted for publishing in IEEE
Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing. Co-authors
are Jun Li, Chian-Yi Liu, Hung-Lung Huang (CIMSS), Timothy J. Schmit
(ORA), Xuebao Wu (CIMSS), W. Paul Menzel (ORA) and James J. Gurka

Federal Property
Custodian Training Completed: G. Wade, the federal
Property Custodian for the Advanced
Satellite Products Team (ASPT) in Madison, Wisconsin, completed
the Sunflower Systems Property Custodian Training Program on March
10, 2005. Two continuing education units (CEU) were awarded for
full
participation in the day-long on-line course. The course was given over
the web and telephone using Sunflower's Webex technology. (G.S.

Accountability Officer Training Completed: J. Key, the
federal Property Accountability Officer for the Advanced
Satellite Products Team (ASPT) in Madison, Wisconsin, completed
the Sunflower Systems Property Accountability Officer Training Program
on March 9, 2005. This was a three-hour course given over the web
