Cloud Climatology Assessment Workshop: A cloud climatology assessment workshop was hosted by the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) April 5-7.  Andrew Heidinger and Jeff Key  presented their cloud climatologies derived from the NOAA Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR).  The goals of the meeting were to assess the current state of the long term satellite-derived cloud climatologies. Jeff Key presented work using the AVHRR Polar Pathfinder Extended (APP-x) data while Andrew Heidinger presented results from the AVHRR Pathfinder Atmospheres Extended (PATMOS-x) data-set. The meeting was chaired by Bill Rossow (NASA), Bryan Baum (NASA), and Garret Campbell (Colorado State University).  Several actions were assigned and the group will reconvene in a year to discuss their findings.  (Andrew Heidinger, E/RA2, 608-263-6757, Jeff Key, E/RA2, 608-263-2605)
