Workshop on Next Generation European Satellite: T. Schmit and J. Gurka participated in the EUropean organization for the exploitation of METeorological SATellites (EUMETSAT) 2nd Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) User Consultation Workshop held April 13-15, 2005 in Locarno, Switzerland. The presentations were entitled "GOES-R status and recommendations from the GOES-R Users' Conferences" and "The GOES-R imager, sounder and lightning observation missions". Significance:
This workshop supported NOAA/NESDIS-EUMETSAT bi-lateral science cooperation.  Knowledge gained from the meeting will help NOAA/NESDIS understand the potential synergies between GOES-R and MTG and will help EUMETSAT understand the status of the GOES-R system.

Supports the following NOAA Mission Goals:
1. Protect, restore, and manage the use of coastal and ocean resources through ecosystem-based management
2. Understand climate variability and change to enhance society's ability to plan and respond.
3. Serve society's needs for weather and water information.
4. Support the Nation's commerce with information for safe, efficient, and environmentally sound transportation.
