NPOESS Preparatory Project Science Team Meeting:  A. Heidinger co-chaired a session on cloud remote sensing at the recent NPOESS Preparatory Project (NPP) Science Team Meeting held in Annapolis, Maryland.  The meeting was focused on identifying the current issues and concerns with the NPOESS process and to build collaboration between team members.  It was announced at the meeting that the Cloud/Atmospheres product evaluation system would developed at the University of Wisconsin Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC). The meeting was well attended by representatives from the NPOESS prime contractor (Northrop Grumman).  (A. Heidinger,  E/RA2, 608-263-6757, andrew.heidinger@noaa.gov)

ITEMS FOR THE DIVISION CHIEF, ARAD

NOAA-N Sounder Transmittances Provided to NESDIS: H. Woolf, Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS), provided spectral transmittances for the High Resolution Infrared Radiation Sounder (HIRS), the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit (AMSU), and the Microwave Humidity Sounder (MHS) to T. Kleespies of NESDIS. This was done in response to a request for transmittances in the "old style" of OPTRAN coefficients.  They were needed in preparation for the launch of the NOAA-N satellite.  (H.
