Visitor from EUMETSAT: Dr. Stephen Tjemkes from the EUropean organization for the exploitation for METeorological SATellites (EUMETSAT) in Darmstadt, Germany visited the Advanced Satellite Products Branch (ASPB) during May 9-18, 2005.  He learned about the high infrared spectral resolution studies conducted at the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite.  Simulation capabilities and the associated software will be demonstrated and transferred to Dr. Tjemkes for use at EUMETSAT to assist in their trade studies for Meteosat Third Generation.  Software and data transferred include temperature/moisture/ozone sounding training data sets, information content of spectral measurements, high-spectral resolution radiative transfer, and atmospheric motion vectors tracked in sounding retrievals.  This activity is part of the NESDIS ongoing scientific collaboration with the Met Division of EUMETSAT.
