McIDAS Users' Group Meeting held in Madison:  The annual Man computer Interactive Data Access System (McIDAS) Users' Group Meeting was hosted by the University of Wisconsin Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC), on October 27-28, 2005 in Madison, Wisconsin.  Issues on software and data within McIDAS were described and discussed, including status of current, and plans for future, geostationary and polar-orbiting satellites as well as the servers to handle satellite and other data, especially files in GRIdded Binary (GRIB) format.  Demonstration of the initial efforts for the new McIDAS-V development project, utilizing tools from both the McIDAS VisAD and Unidata IDV (Integrated Data Viewer) software systems, generated much interest and anticipation from the audience of 40.  T. Extended Abstract on the GOES-N Sounder: An extended abstract on the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite - N (GOES-N) sounder was submitted to the 14th Conference on Satellite Meteorology and Oceanography which will be held in Atlanta, GA during January/February of 2006. The paper title is "The GOES-N Sounder Data and Products". The authors are T. Schmit, G. Wade, M. Gunshor,  J. Nelson, A. Schreiner, J. Li, J. Daniels, and  D. Hillger. The manuscript outlines the similarities and differences expected from the GOES-N Sounder, compared to the GOES-8 through 12 series. (T. Schmit, E/RA2, 608-263-0291, tim.j.schmit@noaa.gov)
