Polar Winds Presenation at Norwegian Polar Institute: J. Key gave an invited presentation at the Norwegian Polar Institute (Norsk Polarinstitutt, http://www.npolar.no) in Tromsø, Norway, on Friday, February 24.  The subject of the talk was the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) polar winds project, including applications to weather forecasting and climate prediction. (J. Key, E/RA2, 608-263-2605, jeff.key@noaa.gov)

ITEMS FOR THE DIVISION CHIEF, CoRP

Status of Tromsø Polar Winds System: J. Key and J. Overton (Integrated Program Office, IPO) worked with Kongsberg Satellite Services personnel (Ksat, http://www.ksat.no) at the Ksat facility in Tromsø, Norway to implement a system that will utilize the IPO antenna on Svalbard for the generation of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) polar winds in real-time.  While it was hoped that routine generation of the MODIS winds and other MODIS products would begin this week, problems with the low-level format of the data and with scheduling of the antenna will cause a delay on the order of three weeks or more. (J. Key, E/RA2, 608-263-2605, jeff.key@noaa.gov)

Manuscript Review: M. Pavolonis completed a manuscript review for the Journal of Applied Meteorology and Climatology.  The manuscript described a new methodology for classifying clouds with GOES-10 and GOES-12 imager data. (M.Pavolonis, E/RA2, 608-263-9597, mike.pavolonis@noaa.gov)
