CLAVR-x Version 4 Delivered to NESDIS:  A new version of the Clouds from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) Extended  (CLAVR-x) System was delivered to the NESDIS Office of Satellite Data  and Product Distribution (OSDPD) for  testing.  This code incorporates some significant new capabilities needed to fulfill recent requests from the NESDIS Sea Surface Temperature (SST) Team and to support a new initiative for volcanic ash detection and height estimation from the AVHRR.  The code is in parallel testing in OSDPD and STAR. Proposal Review:  R. Aune reviewed a proposal submitted to the Office of Atmospheric Research (OAR), of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). (R.Aune, E/RA2, 608-262-1071, robert.aune@noaa.gov)

Manuscript Reviews: M. Pavolonis completed two manuscript reviews.  A paper reviewed for the Journal of Atmospheric Sciences addressed cloud parameterizations in general circulation models.  The second paper, reviewed for Remote Sensing of Environment, described a new satellite-based cloud remote sensing technique.
