Cloud Climatology Workshop: The second GEWEX (Global Energy and Water Cycle Experiment) Cloud Climatology Intercomparison Workshop was held at the University of Wisconsin-Madison July 6-7, 2006.  The workshop was hosted by the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS).  Experts in the remote sensing of clouds came from Europe, Asia, New Zealand, and North America to discuss global and regional cloud climatologies derived from satellite data.  Many CIMSS and Advanced Satellite Products Branch scientists gave presenations at the workshop.  (J. Key, E/RA2, 608-263-2605, jeff.key@noaa.gov, A. Heidinger, E/RA2, 608-263-6757, andrew.heidinger@noaa.gov, M. Pavolonis, E/RA2, 608-263-9597, mpav@ssec.wisc.edu)

GOES-13 Sounder Visible Data Corrected: Initial Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-13 Sounder visible data showed the clear regions were too dark.  This was reported by the Advanced Satellite Products Branch (ASPB) and after a collaborative investigation, the root cause was found and the Office of Satellite Operations (OSO) made a correction on July 6. The correction was to boost the value for the GOES-13 Visible Sounder relativization in the ground Sensor Processing Subsystem (SPS). The data now appear normal. The GOES-13 data were provided by the Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) Data Center. (T. Schmit, E/RA2, 608-263-0291, tim.j.schmit@noaa.gov, M. Gunshor, CIMSS, 608-263-1146)
