ITEMS FOR THE ADMINISTRATOR:

ITEMS FOR THE ASSISTANT ADMINISTRATOR

ITEMS FOR THE OFFICE DIRECTOR, STAR:

ITEMS FOR THE DIVISION CHIEF, CoRP

Image Analysis Performed on GOES-13 Data: Both imager and sounder images from Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-13 were investigated with respect to stray radiation during time periods which correspond to outages on the previous GOES series instruments. GOES-13 can acquire images due to larger on-board batteries. In addition, a teleconference was held with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Post Launch Test (PLT) team (and others) to discuss GOES-13 scan operations during the current PLT eclipse season that will provide data that can be used to assess the need and nature of keep-out zones for the GOES-N series instruments (imager and sounder). Unique scans were defined for the week of September 11th. (T. Schmit, E/RA2, 608-263-0291, tim.j.schmit@noaa.gov)

AVHRR Polar Winds Sample Provided to Japan Meteorological Agency: A one month sample of polar winds derived from historical (not real-time) Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) data was provided to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).  JMA will test the winds for use in their next reanalysis project, JRA-50.  They will also evaluate the utility of the AVHRR winds for operational weather forecasting.   (R. Dworak, CIMSS, 608-265-8620, J. Key, E/RA2, 608-263-2605, jeff.key@noaa.gov, D. Santek, CIMSS, 608-263-7410, C. Velden, CIMSS, 608-262-9168, W. Straka III, CIMSS)

Telecon on GOES Calibration: T. Schmit participated in a telecon that dealt with the idea of consolidating the various Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) calibration and validation tasks, possibly via one web site. This meeting was lead by X. Wu of STAR. (T. Schmit, E/RA2, 608-263-0291, tim.j.schmit@noaa.gov)

Other Meetings and Telecons:
 (None)

VISITORS:

NEXT WEEK:

T. Schmit will present, along with J. Li, a talk entitled "ABI vs Sounder Trade Study " at a Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-R Instrument Issues meeting to be held on September 13 in Camp Springs (hosted by Dick Reynolds). Many others from Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) will also teleconference to this meeting.
