IN THE PRESS:

ITEMS FOR THE ADMINISTRATOR:

ITEMS FOR THE ASSISTANT ADMINISTRATOR:

ITEMS FOR THE OFFICE DIRECTOR, STAR:

Near real-time GOES-10 Data on the Web: Imager and sounder data from the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-10, which at approximately 60 degrees West longitude, are being ingested by the Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) Data Center and processed by the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS). The goal of this effort is to demonstrate the GOES-10 imagery available via the Imager and Sounder schedules, and to showcase what is possible with select Sounder products. This is being done in support of the Earth Observation Partnership of the Americas (EOPA) project - now being called Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) Americas. The radiance and Sounder cloud-top pressure images can be found at: http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/rt/goes10.php. (T. Schmit, E/RA2, 608-263-0291, tim.j.schmit@noaa.gov, J. Nelson, CIMSS, 608-263-6013, T. Schreiner, CIMSS, 608-263-6754)

ITEMS FOR THE DIVISION CHIEF, CoRP:

GOES-10 Imager Example During GOES-12 Rapid Scan Imaging: Animations from both the GOES-12 and GOES-10 Imagers have been posted on the web. GOES-12 was in rapid scan operations and hence offered very limited coverage of the Southern Hemisphere, while the GOES-10 Imager continued it’s routine 15/30 minute coverage of the Southern Hemisphere. The animations have been posted at: http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/2007/01/05/goes-10-south-american-coverage-during-goes-12-rso/. (T. Schmit, E/RA2, 608-263-0291, tim.j.schmit@noaa.gov, S. Bachmeier, CIMSS, 608-263-3958)

Manuscript and Proposal Reviews: Andrew Heidinger reviewed a manuscript for the Journal of Atmospheric Research. The paper studied the errors associated with the estimation of cloud optical thickness without knowledge of the cloud particle size distribution. Jeff Key reviewed five proposals for NASA. The proposals were for research and instrumentation during the International Polar Year (IPY). (A. Heidinger, E/RA2, 608-263-6757, andrew.heidinger@noaa.gov; J. Key, E/RA2, 608-263-2605, jkey@ssec.wisc.edu)

Other Meetings and Telecons:

None.

VISITORS:

NEXT WEEK:

As a member of the Review Team, T. Schmit will attend the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-R Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) Critical Design Review (CDR). This review will be given by the ABI vendor, ITT, and will be held February 14-16, 2007 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. (T. Schmit, E/RA2, 608-263-0291, tim.j.schmit@noaa.gov)
