NPOESS Training Resources Development Workshop: S. Bachmeier attended the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS) / Cooperative program for Operational Meteorology, Education and Training (COMET) Training Resources Development Workshop held in Boulder, Colorado May 7-10, 2007. A presentation on "MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiomenter (MODIS) Products in Advanced Weather Information Processing Sysstem (AWIPS)" was given at the workshop to demonstrate some of the recent Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) activities related to polar orbiting satellite training. While at the workshop, a separate "MODIS Products in AWIPS" Virtual Institute for Satellite Integration Training (VISIT) distance learning lesson was conducted, with staff participating remotely from National Weather Service (NWS) forecast offices at Anchorage, Alaska, Gaylord, Michigan, Great Falls, Montana, and Peachtree City, Georgia. These updates handle both Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-13 and the recently increased GOES-12 rollover values in the 4 micron band. "Rollover" is when a GVAR count exceeds its range on the hot end and 'rollsover' to appear as a cold pixel. This work is supported the the GEO- Product Services Development and Improvement (PSDI) project. (C. Schmidt, CIMSS, 608-262-7973)
