CLAVR-x Goes Operational on METOP: The Clouds from AVHRR Extended (CLAVR-x) cloud processing system applied to the Metop AVHRR data achieved operational status this week. The Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) on the Europe's Metop series of polar orbiting satellites allows NOAA for the first time to provide global cloud products with a spatial resolution of 1 km. (A. Heidinger, E/RA2, 608-263-6757, andrew.heidinger@noaa.gov)

ITEMS FOR THE DIVISION CHIEF, CoRP:

Manuscript on Cloud-top Comparison of AIRS/MODIS/CloudSat/CALIPSO Submitted: A manuscript entitled "Comparison of AIRS, MODIS, CloudSat and CALIPSO cloud top height retrievals" has been submitted to Geophysical Research Letters (GRL) for publication. Co-authors are Elisabeth Weisz, Jun Li, W. Paul Menzel (CIMSS), Andrew Heidinger (ASPT/STAR), and Brian Kahn (JPL). (Jun Li, CIMSS/UW-Madison, 608-262-3755, Jun.Li@ssec.wisc.edu)

ABI Infrared (IR) Bit Depth: To address a concern raised regarding the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) 3.9 um band bit depth during the recent Algorithm Working Group (AWG) annual meeting, a spreadsheet was created to verify the needed ABI bit depths for the IR bands. The results confirm an earlier analysis by D. Hillger and T. Schmit. More information can be found at: http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/abi/index.html (T. Schmit, E/RA2, 608-263-0291, tim.j.schmit@noaa.gov, M. Gunshor, CIMSS, 608-263-1146)
