One Year of MODIS Imagery in AWIPS: July 5, 2007 marked the one year anniversary of the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) providing Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) imagery and products to Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) workstations at select National Weather Service (NWS) forecast offices. To mark the occasion, K. Bedka, J. Gerth, and S. Bachmeier visited the NWS forecast office at Milwaukee/Sullivan, Wisconsin to meet with the staff on duty to discuss the MODIS data and their use in an operational forecast environment. In addition, K. Bedka gave a short presentation on the CIMSS Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) Mesoscale Wind products that are now being provided to the Milwaukee NWS AWIPS workstations for testing and evaluation. To date, the MODIS imagery and products have been mentioned in 22 separate NWS Area Forecast Discussions, and have received generally positive feedback from forecaster surveys. (S.
