AVHRR Imagery in Google Earth: Pseudo true-color imagery from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) is now being displayed in Google Earth. The imagery can be accessed from http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/google-earth/avhrr. (A. Evan, CIMSS, 608-263-3951, A. Heidinger, E/RA2, 608-263-6757)

ITEMS FOR THE DIVISION CHIEF, CoRP:

Weighting Functions Lab Available: A weighting functions lab was created to support the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) Americas/Caribbean Remote Sensing Workshop - Transforming Data into Products (November 26-30, 2007 at the Center for Weather Forecast and Climatic Analysis/National Institute for Space Research (CPTEC/INPE) Cachoeira Paulista, São Paulo, Brazil). The lab consists of Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-10 Imager and Sounder weighting functions for a variety of atmospheres, view angles, total moisture amounts, and skin temperatures. Named as "my favorite part of the workshop" by one participant, it shows promise as a tool for the Virtual Institute for Satellite Integration Training (VISIT) distance learning program in future lessons. The lab software is available for download to be run locally and is also accessible via the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) GOES "Realtime" Weighting Functions web page: http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/wf/examples. (M. Gunshor, CIMSS, 608-263-1146, T. Schmit, E/RA2, 608-263-0291)
