AGU Satellite Observations for Air Quality Applications Sessions: The American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall meeting (Dec 10-14, 2007, San Francisco, CA) included four special sessions (one poster, three oral) that focused on the use of satellite observations for air quality applications (R. B. Pierce, NOAA/NESDIS, J. Crawford, NASA, D. Jacob, Harvard session chairs). Results from Real-time Air Quality Modeling System (RAQMS) chemical data assimilation studies were presented in a special session that focused on the assimilation of satellite and in situ measurements of atmospheric chemistry. ASPB Completes Pledges for 2008 CFC: The Advanced Satellite Products Branch (ASPB) completed its pledge drive for the 2008 Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), with full participation from all members as well as a couple of NOAA retirees/associates. This year's pledge from nine contributors topped $3800, the largest so far. In south central Wisconsin, the CFC is conducted through the United Way of Dane County. (G.S. CIMSS VISIT Activities: The Virtual Institute for Satellite Integration Training (VISIT) distance learning lessons "Water Vapor Imagery and Potential Vorticity Analysis" and "Basic Satellite Principles" were given by staff from the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) on December 18, 19, and 21. Forecasters from nine separate National Weather Service (NWS) forecast offices (Aberdeen, South Dakota; Buffalo, New York; Burlington, Vermont; Glasgow, Montana; Great Falls, Montana; Greenville/Spartanburg, South Carolina; Lincoln, Illinois; Mount Holly, New Jersey; Spokane, Washington) participated in the VISIT lessons. Quarterly Laptop Inventory Completed at ASPB: The quarterly (first for FY 2008) physical inventory for all federal laptops at the Advanced Satellite Products Branch (ASPB) was submitted on 17 Dec 2007.
