Advanced Infrared Geostationary Sounder Manuscript Submitted: A manuscript was submitted to the Journal of Geophysical Research – Atmospheres. The title is “Geostationary High Spectral and Temporal Resolution Infrared Measurements”. (T. Schmit, E/RA2, 608-263-0291, tim.j.schmit@noaa.gov)

CIMSS VISIT Activities: The Virtual Institute for Satellite Integration Training (VISIT) distance learning lesson "Water Vapor Imagery and Potential Vorticity Analysis" (http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/visit/wv_pv.html) was offered by staff from the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) on June 30, 2008. National Weather Service (NWS) participants in the VISIT lesson included the Office of Science and Technology (OST) in Silver Spring, Maryland and the Forecast Development Training Branch (FDTB) in Boulder, Colorado. In addition, the CIMSS Satellite Blog (http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog) was updated with examples of imagery showing phenomena such as wildfire activity in Canada, tropical cyclone activity in the Pacific Ocean, and an undular bore off the coast of Africa. Abstract Submitted to the Direct Read-out Conference: At the request of the program committee, an abstract was submitted for the 2008 NOAA Satellite Direct Read-out Conference. The title is “Current and Near-term Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) Operations and Applications”. The authors are: Timothy J. Schmit, Mat Gunshor, Cindy Hampton, Don Hillger, Jun Li, James P. Nelson III, Anthony J. Schreiner, Gary S. Wade, and Zhenglong Li.
