Polar Winds from NOAA-19 AVHRR: Routine production of winds over the Arctic and Antarctic using Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) data from the recently launched NOAA-19 satellite has begun at the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS). The product is also being generated in NESDIS operations. Additionally, NOAA-19 winds using higher resolution direct readout AVHRR data at Barrow, Alaska, and Rothera, Antarctica, are also being produced. The winds are generated with the same technique that is applied to the AVHRR 11 micron images from the other NOAA polar orbiting satellites. (D. Santek, CIMSS, 608-263-7410; J.
