GOES-13 Imager CSBT Ready for Operational Production: The Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) -13 will be the operational eastern GOES sometime around the middle of April 2010. In preparation for this scenario, the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) and the Office of Satellite Data Production and Distribution (OSDPD) collectively prepared algorithms and output to make sure that the software updates and the quality of the final products for the Clear Sky Brightness Temperature (CSBT) project were ready for the soon-to-be operational GOES-13. The end result of this process achieved accepted results. (T. Schreiner, CIMSS, 608-263-6754, tony.schreiner@ssec.wisc.edu; Deyong Xu, NOAA/NESDIS/OSDPD/SSD/PIB, (301) 763-8430; T. Schmit, E/RA2, 608-263-0291; J. Nelson, CIMSS, 608-263-6013; Curtis Holland, NESDIS/OSDPD/PIB, 301-763-8142)

Figure caption: GOES-13 Imager CSBT derived-image on 4 February 2010 at 1845UTC for the Long Wave Window Band. The gray regions indicate cloud and the red through green regions depict clear field of views. The image on the left hand side was produced at CIMSS and the image on the right at OSDPD. Note the overall similarities for both derived images.

COMET Module on an Advanced Sounder on GOES: A Cooperative Program for Operational Meteorology, Education and Training (COMET) module entitled "Toward an Advanced Sounder on GOES?" has been developed and released on the MetEd web site. The module discusses the needs and likely benefits of a potential geostationary advanced sounder. T. Schmit was one of the Subject Matter Experts and the Project lead was Patrick Dills, University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR)/COMET. The module can be launched from http://www.meted.ucar.edu/goes_r/geo_sounding/ (after registering). (T. Schmit, E/RA2, 608-263-0291, tim.j.schmit@noaa.gov)
