GEO User Interface Committee Meeting: The 14th Group on Earth Observations (GEO) User Interface Committee (UIC) meeting was held at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) in Reading, UK, 2-4 March 2010. Jeff Key participated remotely and gave a presentation on the emerging cryosphere community of practice. (J. Key, E/RA2, 608-263-2605, jkey@ssec.wisc.edu)

Interdepartmental Hurricane Conference: Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) scientist Chris Velden participated in the 61st Interdepartmental Hurricane Conference (IHC) held in Savannah, Georgia. The meeting is held to update interagency program managers and hurricane forecasters on the latest in applied hurricane research. CIMSS work presented included progress on the satellite-based consensus hurricane intensity estimate efforts, and objective algorithms to yield probabilities of secondary hurricane eyewall formation. There were also discussions with NHC forecasters on GOES-R Proving Ground activities, and plans for a real-time demo of products this coming summer hurricane season. (C. Velden, CIMSS, 608-262-9168)

GOES-R Proving Ground Presentation: On March 2, 2010 a presentation was given remotely to the National Weather Service (NWS) Science Services Division (SSD) Chiefs. The title was "Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS)/ Advanced Satellite Products Branch (ASPB) and National Weather Service (NWS) Interactions as part of the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-R Proving Ground". This was a meeting organized and hosted by the Short-term Prediction Research and Transition Center (SPoRT).
