GOES-R AWG Technical Interchange Meetings: The Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-R Algorithm Working Group (AWG) Land, Imagery and VolAsh TIMs (Technical Interchange Meetings) were held on June 10 and 11, 2010 in Madison, WI, as part of the GOES-R AWG annual meeting. The meeting participants included the GOES-R Ground Segment, Algorithm Working Group (AWG), the corresponding AWG teams, Harris Inc., Atmospheric and Environmental Research, Inc. (AER) and others. 2010 GOES-R Algorithm Working Group Meeting in Madison: The STAR Advanced Satellite Products Branch (ASPB) and the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) shined at the 2010 Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-R Algorithm Working Group (AWG) annual meeting that was held 7-10 June 2010 in Madison, WI. The roles of the ASPB consisted of AWG team chairs (J. Key, A. Heidinger, T. Schmit), keynote speaker on volcanic applications (M. Pavolonis), oral presentations on clouds and moisture imagery, aviation, cloud properties, soundings, surface emissivity, visibility, and ice motion (M. Pavolonis, A. Heidinger, T. Schmit, R. Pierce, J. Key), poster presentations (R. Pierce, M. Pavolonis, A. Heidinger, T. Schmit, J. Key), Applications Integration Team meetings (T. Schmit, A. Heidinger, M. Pavolonis, R. Pierce, J. Key) and local organizer (T. Schmit). Many CIMSS personnel also participated with oral presentations, posters and side-meetings. There were over 150 total participants. (T. ITEMS FOR THE DIVISION CHIEF, CoRP:

CIMSS VISIT Activities: The Virtual Institute for Satellite Integration Training (VISIT) distance learning lessons "The University of Wisconsin Convective Initiation Product" (http://rammb.cira.colostate.edu/visit/uwci.html) and "Polar Operational Environmental Satellite (POES) and Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) Data in Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS)" (http://rammb.cira.colostate.edu/visit/avhrr_awips.html) were led by S. Lindstrom of the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) on June 8 and 9, 2010. Staff from the National Weather Service forecast offices in Greenville/Spartanburg (North Carolina), Indianpolis (Indiana), Boise (Idaho), Pendleton (Oregon), Gaylord (Michigan), as well as Environment Canada participated in the VISIT lessons.
