WisconsinEye: Weather Satellites: Steve Ackerman, Director of the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS), and Jeff Key, Chief of the NESDIS/STAR Advanced Satellite Products Branch, were interviewed for a WisconsinEye (http://www.wiseye.org) video segment on weather satellites and the recent CIMSS re-competition. The 35-minute piece, titled "Wisconsin Perspective: Weather Satellites", is available online (http://www.wiseye.org/wisEye_programming/ARCHIVES-pwi.html#3972) and will be aired on a local cable television station. Hurricane Science Discussion on WNYC: Leonard Lopate, on New York's National Public Radio station WNYC, interviewed NOAA scientist Jim Kossin regarding new developments in hurricane science in the past five years since since Katrina. Visit to German Weather Service: Andrew Heidinger visited the German Weather Service in Offenbach, Germany. This trip is part of the GOES-R Visiting Scientist Program. While in Offenbach, A. Heidinger met with the team developing cloud products for real-time and climate applications, and met with some of the forecasters using these products. He also gave a seminar. (A. GEO User Interface Committee Meeting: The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) User Interface Committee (UIC) held their 15th meeting in Oslo, Norway, 1-3 September 2010. Jeff Key participated remotely and gave a presentation on the emerging cryosphere community of practice. (J. Key, E/RA2, 608-263-2605, jkey@ssec.wisc.edu)

CIMSS VISIT Activities and CIMSS Satellite Blog Updates: The Virtual Institute for Satellite Integration Training (VISIT) distance learning module "The University of Wisconsin Convective Initiation Product" (http://rammb.cira.colostate.edu/visit/uwci.html) was led by S. Lindstrom on August 31, 2010. The National Weather Service forecast office at Raleigh, North Carolina participated in the VISIT lesson. A number of Hurricane Earl posts were added to the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) Satellite Blog (http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/?s=Hurricane+Earl); three of the blog posts included Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES-15) imagery in support of the GOES-15 Post Launch Science Test (http://rammb.cira.colostate.edu/projects/goes-p/).
