Presentation at A-Train Symposium Atmospheric Composition Session: An oral presentation entitled "Real-time Air Quality Modeling System (RAQMS) Aerosol and Ozone Assimilation and Forecasting Experiments using A-Train Measurements during the NOAA CalNex Field Mission" was presented within the Atmospheric Composition Session of the 2010 A-Train Symposium, Oct 25-28, New Orleans. This talk presented results from post mission studies focused on evaluation of the RAQMS large-scale ozone and aerosol analyses and forecast skill. (R. B. ASPB Participates in the 2010 MUG Meeting: The Advanced Satellite Products Branch (ASPB) participated in the 2010 McIDAS (Man computer Interactive Data Access System) Users' Group (MUG) Meeting that was held 25-28 October in Madison, WI. In addition to learning about the recent advances of the McIDAS, both T. J. Schmit and G. S. Wade received advanced McIDAS-V training. McIDAS is key software for the generation and visualization of many satellite images and products. Schmit also gave a presentation on the GOES (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite) Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI). (T. J. Schmit, E/RA2, 608-263-0291, tim.j.schmit@noaa.gov; G. S. CIMSS VISIT Activities and CIMSS Satellite Blog Updates: The Virtual Institute for Satellite Integration Training (VISIT) distance learning module "Trough of Warm Air Aloft (TROWAL) Identification" (http://rammb.cira.colostate.edu/visit/trowal.html) was led by S. Lindstrom on October 28, 2010. Staff from the National Weather Service forecast offices at Bismarck, North Dakota and Chicago, Illinois participated in the VISIT lesson. In addition, the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) Satellite Blog was updated with Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES), Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), and Polar Operational Environmental Satellite (POES) Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) images of the intense mid-latitude cyclone that set all-time low pressure records for the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin on October 26, 2010 (http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/archives/7017).
