WCRP Climate and Cryosphere Science Steering Group Meeting: The World Climate Research Programme's Climate and Cryosphere (CliC) project Science Steering Group met in Tromso, Norway this week. J. Key gave presentations via phone on the new Global Cryosphere Watch initiative, the Arctic Council's Snow, Water, Ice, and Permafrost in the Arctic (SWIPA) assessment, the WCRP Observation and Assimilation Panel, and the Canadian Polar Communication and Weather (PCW) satellite mission. ARCPAC Aerosol Manuscript Published: A manuscript entitled “Characteristics, sources, and transport of aerosols measured in spring 2008 during the aerosol, radiation, and cloud processes affecting Arctic Climate (ARCPAC)” by C. A. Brock et al. was published in Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics (Atmos. Chem. Phys., 11, 2423-2453, doi:10.5194/acp-11-2423-2011, 2011). The manuscript presents an overview of the background, scientific goals, and execution of the NOAA Aerosol, Radiation, and Cloud Processes affecting Arctic Climate (ARCPAC) mission of April 2008 which part of NOAA's contribution to the International Polar Year (IPY). Online supplemental material for the manuscript includes movies of large scale aerosol transport over the Pacific from the Real-time Air Quality Modeling System (RAQMS) aerosol analyses.
