ASPB Participation in GOES-R AWG Annual Review: Several STAR Advanced Satellite Products Branch (ASPB) scientists participated in the 2011 Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-R Algorithm Working Group (AWG) Review in Fort Collins, CO, 14-16 June 2011. The goal of the GOES-R AWG Review was to present the accomplishments of the AWG over the past year, hold individual product application team meetings with the Algorithm Integration Team (AIT), and inform the GOES-R Program Office and AWG Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) on the status of the AWG. ASPB and CIMSS scientists presented status updates on Option 2 Aviation and Cryosphere algorithm development, Baseline Imagery, Cloud, Aviation, Soundings and Cryosphere algorithm validation, as well as Proxy, Man computer Interactive Data Access System (McIDAS)-V, and GOES-R Analysis Facility Instrument for Impacts on Requirements (GRAFIIR) efforts. CIMSS Participation in GOES-R AWG Annual Review: Several scientists from the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) participated in the GOES-R Annual Meeting held in Fort Collins, CO, 14-16 June 2011. Presentations from CIMSS scientists were provided by Tom Greenwald, Tony Wimmers, Yinghui Liu, Xuanji Wang, Zhenglong Li, Chris Schmidt, Tom Rink and Mat Gunshor. Other CIMSS scientists present represented Option 1 and 2 product development at CIMSS in talks that were provided by NOAA AWG Team Leads. CIMSS VISIT Activities: The Virtual Institute for Satellite Integration Training (VISIT) session "Objective Satellite-Based Overshooting Top and Enhanced-V Anvil Thermal Couplet Signature Detection" was led by S. Lindstrom on June 16, 2011. Staff from the National Weather Service forecast office at Albuquerque, New Mexico participated in the VISIT lesson. In addition, the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) Satellite Blog was updated with a post containing Fengyun-2E (FY-2E) and Meteosat-9 images of an eruption of the Nabro volcano in the northeast Africa country of Eritrea on 12 June 2011 (http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/archives/8339). VISITORS:

Delegates from the CMA Visit CIMSS: Four delegates from the Chinese Meteorological Agency (CMA) visited the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) June 16-17. The delegates were Yan Guanghua, Liu Lihong, Zhang Yong, and Xiao Ziniu (Deputy Director General of CMA Training Center). Topics focused on training, with presentations by several CIMSS/SSEC (Space Science and Engineer Center) and Advanced Satellite Products Branch (ASPB) staff. Also, several tours/demonstrations were included, includes ones on Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) and a web mapping service application. (T.
