GOES-R AWG Land Surface Emissivity Algorithm Readiness Review: The next generation Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES-R) algorithm working group (AWG) sounding team and the AWG algorithm integration team (AIT) participated in the Algorithm Readiness Review (ARR) presentation on Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) option 2 land surface emissivity (LSE) product to the GOES-R Ground Segment Project (GSP) on 25 August 2011. The ARR presented the current schedule, test readiness review risks and actions, requirements allocation, quality assurance, framework architecture, algorithm validation and software readiness, and the algorithm package content for GOES-R LSE product. JPSS Cal/Val Rehearsal, Phase 2: The phase 2 Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) calibration/validation (cal/val) rehearsal was held the week of August 22, 2011. The phase 1 rehearsal took place the week of July 18. The objectives of the rehearsals were to test the flow of proxy NPOESS Preparatory Project (NPP)/JPSS satellite data between the various data systems that will process and store the actual data after launch, and to implement and test validation tools. Y. Liu and X. Wang of the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies participated, as did A. Heidinger and J. Key (Advanced Satellite Products Branch). (J. VISITORS:

Visit by EUMETSAT Training Personnel: Jochen Kerkmann from the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) and Jarno Schipper from Eumetcal visited the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) for the week of 22 August 2011. They each gave one-hour seminars, focusing on training activities related to EUMETSAT's research and application activities. They also met with a dozen CIMSS and Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) staff and students to discuss, one-on-one, activities of mutual interest and were able to attend weather briefings and a brief introduction to the Man-computer Interactive Data Access System, Version 5 (McIDAS-V) software.
