Otkin Visits CIRA: Jason Otkin visited the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) from 05-06 December 2011 to share code used to prepare output from Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model simulations for ingest into the Community Radiative Transfer Model (CRTM). He also gave a seminar titled “GOES-R ABI Proxy Radiance Dataset Generation and Data Assimilation Activities at the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS)”. An overview of some of our large-scale model-derived synthetic ABI datasets and results from a regional-scale data assimilation study were presented. (J. Otkin, CIMSS, 608-265-2476)

Invited Presentation on Arctic Sea Ice Change at AGU: An invited presentation titled "Arctic Sea Ice Changes, Interactions, and Feedbacks on the Arctic Climate during the Satellite Era" was given at the American Geophysical Union 2011 Annual Meeting, 5-9 December 2011 in San Francisco by Xuanji Wang. (X. Wang, CIMSS, 608-261-1390)

Joint Center Seminar on the ABI: On December 14, 2011, T. Schmit gave an invited presentation to the Joint Center for Satellite Data Assimilation (JCSDA). The topic was numerical weather prediction (NWP) opportunities with the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) on the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-R series. The presentation, which covered both current GOES impacts and potential impacts from GOES-R, is posted at http://www.jcsda.noaa.gov/JCSDASeminars2011.php. (T.
