Paper on Arctic Clouds Published and Highlighed by AGU: The paper "A Cloudier Arctic Expected with Diminishing Sea Ice" by Yinghui Liu (Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies, CIMSS), Jeff Key (NOAA/NESDIS), Zhengyu Liu (Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, UW-Madison), Xuanji Wang (CIMSS), and Stephen J. Vavrus (UW-Madison), was published in Geophysical Research Letters on March 13, 2012 (39, L05705, doi:10.1029/2012GL051251). This paper has been selected as a research spotlight by American Geophysical Union, as well as a research highlight by Nature Climate Change (reported earlier). The authors quantified the feedback of recent Arctic sea ice variations on cloud cover using satellite data, and suggest that further warming and sea ice melt in coming years could lead to cloudier skies in the Arctic. (Y. Liu, CIMSS, 608-265-8620)

Paper Published on Natural Color Imagery: A paper was published on natural color imagery in the International Journal of Remote Sensing (2011, Vol. 33, Iss. 13). The paper, titled "A Case for Natural Colour Imagery from Geostationary Satellites, and an Approximation for the GOES-R ABI", describes the various uses of natural color images and presents a mitigation strategy for the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI), which does not have the ‘green’ band. The authors are Steve Miller (Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere, CIRA), Chris Schmidt (Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies, CIMSS), Tim Schmit (STAR/ASPB), and Don Hillger (STAR/RAMMB).
