Participation in NOAA Virtual Satellite Science Conference: Over two dozen scientists from the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) and the STAR Advanced Satellite Products Branch (ASPB) participated in the NOAA Satellite Science Virtual Meeting that was held 18–22 March 2013. ASPB/CIMSS roles in the virtual conference included, but were not limited to: moderator of AWIPS II/RGB session (Jordan Gerth), moderator of the Tropical Storms/Hurricanes poster session (Chris Velden), moderator of the Exploitation of Satellites for Data Sparse Regions session (Tim Schmit), moderator for Non-Convective Forecast Applications (Mike Pavolonis), moderator for the session on innovative methods, presentation on severe weather and lightning (Wayne Feltz), AWIPS II provider updates at CIMSS (Jordan Gerth), scientific advancements presentations (Tony Wimmers, Mike Pavolonis, Brad Pierce), and poster presentations (Andy Heidinger, Kaba Bah, Sharon Nebuda). New VISIT Lesson "VIIRS Satellite Imagery in AWIPS": A new Virtual Institute for Satellite Integration Training (VISIT) lesson titled "Visible Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Satellite Imagery in Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS)" was completed and placed on the VISIT calendar (http://rammb.cira.colostate.edu/training/visit/training_sessions/viirs_satellite_imagery_in_awips/). The Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) is now providing real-time VIIRS imagery for National Weather Service forecast offices to add to their local AWIPS workstations.
