Satellite and Education Conference: The 27th Satellites and Education Conference was held at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, WI, July 30 - August 1, 2014.  The director of the National Weather Service, Dr. Louis Uccellini, participated in person and gave a keynote presentation. T. Schmit (STAR) gave a talk on Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-R. Other speakers from Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) and the Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) covered topics such as satellite meteorology, weather and climate Web Apps (http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/applets/overview.html), CIMSS satellite blogs, and Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (NPP). Part of this meeting was for interacting with high school teachers who are developing GOES-R related lesson plans. More information can be found athttp://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/meetings/27sated/. (T. Schmit, E/RA2, 608-263-0291, tim.j.schmit@noaa.gov; M. Mooney, CIMSS/SSEC, 608-265-2123)

STAR Represented at the National Weather Service Booth, Experimental Aircraft Association Airshow: R. Aune volunteered to work at the National Weather Service (NWS) booth at the Experimental Aircraft Association Airventure airshow in Oshkosh, WI, on July 29, 2014. He assisted NWS personnel from three forecast offices, the Aviation Weather Center, and NWS headquarters by answering questions about new technologies available to pilots, weather satellites and the weather in general. Airventure is the largest airshow in the world, lasts for one week and is visited by over a half-million aviation enthusiasts. (R. Aune, E/RA2, 608-262-1071, Robert.Aune@noaa.gov)

OCONUS Weather Satellite Research to Operations Interchange Meeting: Jordan Gerth (University of Wisconsin), Liam Gumley (University of Wisconsin), and Mike Pavolonis (NOAA/NESDIS/STAR) attended the 2014 OCONUS Weather Satellite Research to Operations Interchange Meeting from 29 July 2014, through 1 August 2014 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The meeting was hosted by Mitch Goldberg and Bill Sjoberg, representing the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) program, Steve Goodman, representing the next generation Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES-R) program, and Bill Ward and Carven Scott, representing the National Weather Service (NWS). The primary goals of the meeting were to: 1). Assess the GOES-R/JPSS science portfolios and NOAA's operational objectives/missions in tandem, specifically identifying cross-cutting priorities as they pertain to Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. possessions in the Pacific Ocean, 2). Determine high-priority, low-effort projects that increase the value of GOES-R and JPSS missions to the NWS in the Alaska Region and Pacific Region, and 3). Introduce operational meteorologists to GOES-R and JPSS science and initiate a dialogue for subsequent science development. Jordan Gerth was the primary meeting organizer. Jordan Gerth, Liam Gumley, and Mike Pavolonis gave oral presentations on various efforts aimed at increasing satellite-based operational capabilities within the NWS Alaska and Pacific Regions. (M. Pavolonis, E/RA2, 608-263-9597, Mike.Pavolonis@noaa.gov)
