2014 NOAA Administrator's Award: An Administrator's Award was given to a group of 16 scientists who served as Lead Authors on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). James Kossin (NESDIS/NCDC) was among the recipients. (J. Kossin, NCDC, 608-265-5356) 

Visit to KNMI: Andrew Heidinger visited the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) in De Bilt, Netherlands. He visited the groups led by Dr Jan-Fokke Meirink and Dr Gerd-Jan van Zadelhoff. These two groups are involved in cloud remote sensing with the Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) satellite imager and are developing the algorithms for the Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) satellite imager. A. Heidinger shared GOES-R cloud algorithms with these groups and obtained codes for estimating precipitation and solar energy from MSG. A. Heidinger also delivered a new reflectance calibration for the NOAA Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR). (A. Heidinger, E/RA2, 608-263-6757, andrew.heidinger@noaa.gov)
