Global Cryosphere Watch South America Meeting: A meeting of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Global Cryosphere Watch (GCW) was held in Santiago, Chile, October 13-16, 2014. Jeff Key attended as a GCW co-lead. The purpose of the meeting was to bring together cryospheric scientists throughout South America and Mexico to discuss GCW's surface-based observation network, called CryoNet. This was the first South America meeting but the second GCW regional meeting, the first being held in Beijing in late 2013. The South America GCW group will meet annually to discuss snow and ice observations from Mexico to Antarctica. (J. Key, E/RA2, 608-263-2605, jkey@ssec.wisc.edu)

GOES-R Program Representatives Visit CIMSS: Dr. Steve Goodman, Mr. Jaime Daniels, and Dr. Satya Kalluri of the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-R program visited the Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC)/Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) October 29-31, 2014. Their visit included discussions on the Community Satellite Processing Package (CSPP) software efforts for GOES-R and a programmatic view of all of the GOES-R research at CIMSS. CIMSS is involved in the GOES-R Algorithm Working Group, GOES-R Risk Reduction, Proving Ground, Satellite Liaisons, High Impact Weather, Training and Education, Calibration/Validation Field Campaigns, and CSPP. (M. Gunshor, CIMSS, 608-263-1146, G. Martin, CIMSS, 608-263-6794, T. Schmit, E/RA2, 608-263-0291).

ITEMS FOR THE DIVISION CHIEF, CoRP:

GOES-R Meeting on Public Outreach: Beginning on October 20, 2014 a Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-R Series Program Education and Public Outreach (EPO) Team meeting was held in Madison, Wisconsin. Participants represented the GOES-R Program Office, Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) and the Advanced Satellite Products Branch (ASPB). The presentation from CIMSS included an overview of the GOES-R Education Proving Ground initiative and demos of new webapps (http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/education/goesr/), the RealEarth Web Mapping Service (WMS) server and GOES-R content for Science On a Sphere (SOS) exhibits. Article accepted in Weather and Forecasting: An article titled "Hurricane wind-pressure relationship and eyewall replacement cycles" by Jim Kossin (NCDC/RSAD) was accepted for publication in Weather and Forecasting. The results quantify for the first time how the wind/pressure relationship in hurricanes varies during eyewall replacement cycles. This has important potential ramifications for operational hurricane intensity forecasting as well as post mortem hurricane damage and risk assessments. (J. Kossin, NCDC/RSAD, 608-265-5356)

Manuscript on validation of satellite measured emissivity datasets accepted: A manuscript entitled "Comparisons of emissivity observations from satellites and the ground at the CRCS Dunhuang Gobi site" has been accepted for publication in Journal of Geophysical Research - Atmospheres. Co-authors are Yong Zhang (China Meteorological Administration), Zhenglong Li and Jun Li(Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies). (Jun Li, CIMSS, Jun.Li@ssec.wisc.edu, 608-262-3755).
