VIIRS Polar Winds Available on EUMETCast: The Visible and Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Polar Winds product developed by STAR and the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS, University of Wisconsin), will be available via the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) EUMETCast Europe system starting January 29, 2015. The VIIRS winds became operational in NESDIS in May 2014. EUMETCast is a broadcast system for environmental data that uses commercial telecommunication geostationary satellites to multicast files (data and products) to a wide user community. EUMETCast is primarily intended for the distribution of image data and products from EUMETSAT's own satellites, but also provides access to data from some external sources, such as NESDIS. To obtain EUMETCast data, users must have a EUMETCast reception station. The VIIRS polar winds are also generated at a direct broadcast site in Fairbanks, Alaska. (J. Key, E/RA2, 608-263-2605, jkey@ssec.wisc.edu)

Global Cryosphere Watch Meetings in Copenhagen: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Global Cryosphere Watch (GCW) program held two meetings in Copenhagen, Denmark, 19-23 January 2015. The CryoNet Team and the Portal and Website Team worked on issues of satellite product intercomparisons and inventories, product metadata, portal interoperability with various data centers and information systems, and the CryoNet site application form. The GCW Steering Group met for higher-level discussions of GCW activities, progress, and plans. Jeff Key (ASPB), the GCW Senior Scientific Advisor, attended the meetings. The meetings were hosted by the National Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland. (J. Key, E/RA2, 608-263-2605, jkey@ssec.wisc.edu)
