CSPP/IMAPP Users' Group Meeting: The second Community Satellite Processing Package (CSPP) / International MODIS/AIR Processing Package (IMAPP) Users’ Group Meeting was held at the EUropean organization for the exploitation of METeorological SATellites (EUMETSAT) in Darmstadt, Germany, 14-16 April 2015. Over 80 attendees from around the world gathered to discuss a wide variety of topics related to reception, processing, and applications of data received from the Suomi-National Polar-orbiting Partnership (S-NPP), Earth Observing System (EOS), Metop, NOAA, and Fēngyún-3 (FY-3) satellites. The meeting was organized jointly by the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) and EUMETSAT. (K. Strabala, CIMSS/SSEC, 608-263-8752, L. Gumley, CIMSS/SSEC)

STAR/CIMSS Response to Large Volcanic Eruption in Chile: With very little warning, Calbuco Volcano in Southern Chile erupted explosively on April 22 and April 23, 2015. The eruption sent large amounts of volcanic ash and gas high into the atmosphere, disrupting air traffic and blanketing towns in volcanic ash. The NOAA/NESDIS/STAR volcanic ash products (http://volcano.ssec.wisc.edu) are being used by various agencies and airlines to help track the volcanic ash clouds in near-realtime and manage air traffic. The satellite products were also used to provide information on the potential for climate impacts as a result of the eruption (http://www.carbonbrief.org/blog/2015/04/how-do-volcanic-eruptions-influence-the-climate/). In addition, many interesting images were posted to the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) Satellite Blog (http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/archives/18174 and http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/archives/18206).
