GEO-CAPE 2015 Open Community Workshop: The 2015 NASA GEOstationary Coastal and Air Pollution Events (GEO-CAPE) Open Community Workshop was held at the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Campus on Aug 31 - Sept 2, EPA facility at Research Triangle Park, NC. GEO-CAPE was recommended by the National Research Council (NRC) 2007 Earth Science Decadal Survey to measure tropospheric trace gases and aerosols and coastal ocean phytoplankton, water quality and biogeochemistry from geostationary orbit. The purpose of the workshop was to update research and user communities regarding progress made to date by the GEO-CAPE Decadal Survey Mission study team, including increased emphasis on commercially hosted payloads and implications of the selection of the NASA Earth Venture Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring of Pollution (TEMPO) mission. Results from the GEO-CAPE Regional and Urban Observing System Simulation Experiment (OSSE) working group were presented which demonstrated the positive impact of assimilation of geostationary ozone retrievals using hyperspectral ultra-violet, visible, and thermal infrared (UV-VIS-TIR) radiances on surface ozone during July 2011. Brad Pierce and Vijay Natraj (NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory) co-lead the GEO-CAPE Regional and Urban OSSE working group and Brad Pierce is a member of the TEMPO Science Team. (R.B. Pierce, E/RA2, 608-890-1892, brad.pierce@noaa.gov, A. Lenzen, T. Schaack, SSEC)
