Great Lakes Regional Collaboration Team: Bob Aune attended the annual 2-day meeting of NOAA's Great Lakes Regional Collaboration Team (GLRCT) which was held at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee's Great Lakes Water Institute. The goals of the meeting were to provide a forum for GLRCT members to interact and increase their respective knowledge of team members and their respective NOAA Line Offices, programs and regional capabilities, to increase member knowledge of and interaction with regional partners including the Water Institute, Wisconsin Sea Grant, Sea Grant Extension Services, WI Coastal Zone Management, Proposed Lake and Michigan Marine Sanctuaries, and to plan team direction and work for FY2016. Aune, the NESDIS representative on the Team, presented a summary of NOAA activities at the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Studies (CIMSS) while Dr. Mark Kulie of CIMSS presented a summary/history of CIMSS at the University of Wisconsin (UW). During the team direction and planning discussion it was recommended that a CIMSS representative be added to the team. (R. Aune, E/RA2, 608-262-1071)

Winners Announced for CIMSS GOES 40th Anniversary Animation Contest: To help commemorate the first Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-1 image on October 25, 1975, the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) held a GOES 40th Anniversary Animation Contest. The contest submissions demonstrated a wide variety of phenomena, including cyclones, convection, lows, smoke, pyro-cumulonimbus, full disk imagery, volcanoes, fog, hurricanes and the polar vortex! The earliest animation was from GOES-1 in 1979 (http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/contest/GOES01_animation_visible_1979100.mp4). Plenary Presentation at NWA: Jordan Gerth, of the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS), gave a presentation in the plenary to the attendees of the National Weather Association (NWA) annual meeting in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on October 19, 2015. The presentation covered the launch schedule of the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite R-Series (GOES-R), and the benefits of GOES-R for operational meteorologists. Examples from the imager on Himawari-8 were included. A similar presentation was also given to attending television broadcasters on October 18, 2015. (J. Gerth, CIMSS, 608-263-4942)

Satellite Images of Hurricane Patricia: Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES-15) infrared and visible images of Category 5 Hurricane Patricia were posted on the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) Satellite Blog (http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/archives/19838). On October 23 2015 Patricia became the most intense hurricane on record in the National Hurricane Center area of responsibility (which includes the northern Atlantic Ocean and the eastern North Pacific Ocean).
