2nd Atmospheric Composition OSSE Workshop: Brad Pierce attended the 2nd Atmospheric Composition Observation System Simulation Experiment (OSSE) workshop in Reading, England and presented a talk entitled "Regional ozone OSSEs for the GEO-CAPE mission" which was designed to demonstrate the ability of the GEOstationary Coastal and Air Pollution Events (GEO-CAPE) mission to provide useful constraints on tropospheric ozone under a range of real-world conditions. The workshop was sponsored by the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) Atmospheric Composition Constellation, NASA, Copernicus and the European Center for Medium-range Weather Forecasting (ECMWF). GOES-R Media Toolkit: The Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) has compiled select resources to demonstrate and promote technological advancements with GOES-R, the new Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) set to launch on Saturday November 19, 2016. These include a new movie for NOAA Science On a Sphere (SOS) entitled “Weather Satellites – past, present and future”, several short animations that demonstrate improved scanning rates and increased spectral bands on the GOES-R Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) and links to rapid scan imagery from the GOES-14 satellite. Educators participating with the GOES-R Education Proving Ground at CIMSS have been sharing these resources via science blogs, social media and local news outlets. The new media toolkit can be found at http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/education/goesr/media. (M. Mooney, CIMSS, (608)265-2123, T. Schmit, E/RA2, 608-263-0291, R. Kohrs, SSEC,263-6312)

CIMSS VISIT Activities: The Virtual Institute for Satellite Integration Training (VISIT) lesson "Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-R Fog/Low Stratus Products" (http://rammb.cira.colostate.edu/training/visit/training_sessions/forecaster_training_for_the_goes-r_fog_low_stratus_products/) was led by S. Lindstrom on November 10, 2016. National Weather Service (NWS) forecast offices in Little Rock, Arkansas, Paducah, Kentucky and Corpus Christi, Texas participated in the training. The Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) Satellite Blog was updated with a post documenting smoke plumes from fires burning in the Southeast United States on November 7 and 10, 2016 (http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/archives/22573).
