GOES-R/16 Course for NWS Science Officers: From 7 through 9 March 2017, Scott Lindstrom from the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) and Tim Schmit, STAR/ASPB, served as subject-matter expert instructors for the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite R-Series (GOES-R)/16 preparatory course for National Weather Service (NWS) Science and Operations Officers (SOOs). The course, the sixth of seven, was held at the National Weather Service Training Center (NWSTC) in Kansas City, MO. The curriculum includes lectures and interactive activities on the GOES-R/16 imager spectral bands, weighting functions, water vapor imagery interpretation, and imagery composites. The NWS funded the development of the Satellite Information Familiarization Tool (SIFT) for use during some lab activities. (S. Lindstrom, CIMSS, 608-263-4942;T. UW-Madison AOS Capstone Seminar: Brad Pierce gave a presentation entitled “The Lake Michigan Ozone Study (LMOS) 2017” on March 06, 2017 as part of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (AOS) Department Senior Capstone Seminar series (R.B. LMOS 2017 Planning Meeting: Brad Pierce attended planning meeting for the 2017 Lake Michigan Ozone Study (LMOS 2017) hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison Chemistry Department. The planning meeting included members of the LMOS 2017 Steering committee including representatives from NASA, NOAA, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Lake Michigan Air Directors Consortium (LADCO), Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR), EPA Region 5, as well as University of Wisconsin, University of Iowa, and University of Minnesota and focused on logistical planning for the airborne and ground based deployments during the May 22 – June 22, 2017 LMOS campaign (R.B. GOES-16 Cases on the CIMSS Satellite Blog: A number of GOES-16 images and animations have been posted on the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) Satellite Blog (http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/archives/category/goes-16). Examples include severe thunderstorms, heavy snow squalls, grass fires, fog detection, water vapor signatures of turbulence, and a solar eclipse shadow. (S. Lindstrom, CIMSS, 608-263-4425, S.
