ASPB AND CIMSS WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE WEEK ENDING JUNE 23, 2017

LMOS 2017 on Wisconsin Public Radio: A Wisconsin Public Radio interview of some the 2017 Lake Michigan Ozone Study (LMOS 2017) science leads aired on June 22, 2017, which was also that last day of the LMOS 2017 field campaign. CIMSS and ASPB Participation at the AMS Broadcast Conference: Scientists from the Advanced Satellite Products Branch (ASPB) and Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison attended and participated at the American Meteorological Society (AMS) 45th Conference on Broadcast Meteorology (Kansas City, MO, 20-23 June, 2017). CIMSS/ASPB personnel were most of the instructors at the AMS Short Course: "Introducing GOES-16: Early Results, and Forecasting Applications for Broadcasters", an all-day short course held the day prior to the main conference sessions. Tim Schmit (ASPB) filled in for the originally-scheduled lunch-time speaker, who was kept at his home station to report on tropical storm Cindy. The short course received positive reviews from participants, which included broadcast meteorologists from over 10 states, two of their primary imagery providers, and others. Chris Schmidt (CIMSS) gave a presentation titled "GOES-16: The Awesome Images and Products are Here" on the final day of the conference. (Mat Gunshor, CIMSS, 608-263-1146, T. ITEMS FOR THE DIVISION CHIEF, CoRP:

GOES-R Webinar for Middle School Teachers: As part of the GOES-R Education Proving Ground (http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/education/goesr/), Margaret Mooney from the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) presented a remote webinar to 31 middle school teachers in Eastern North Carolina on Tuesday June 19th. The educators were attending a week-long NASA workshop. Mooney elaborated on exciting capabilities associated with the new Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-16 and educational tools to explore GOES-16 data such as teacher-tested lesson plans and interactive HTML5 web apps.
