Tim Schmit and Fred Wu Selected for 2017 NOAA Administrator's Award: Tim Schmit (STAR/ASPB) has been selected to receive the 2017 NOAA Administrator’s and Technology Transfer Award. The NOAA Administrator’s Awards recognize employees who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, skill, and ingenuity in their contributions to NOAA, the Department of Commerce, and the Federal Government. Tim and Xiangqian (Fred) Wu (STAR) received the award "For exemplary leadership during the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite 16 post launch testing to deliver critical Advanced Baseline Imager products to Beta maturity for broad use." ASPB and CIMSS Key Participants at NSC 2017: The NOAA Satellite Conference was held July 16-20 in New York City (http://www.nsc2017.org/). There were participants from across the United States and around the globe representing over 30 countries. The roles filled by Advanced Satellites Products Branch (ASBP) or Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) members included: panelist, oral presentation, poster co-chair, poster presenter, exhibitor, conference planning, attending side meetings and training Subject Matter Experts at sessions on Sunday morning, all-day Monday and Tuesday evenings. The Sli.do audience interaction application was used during the conference for audience polling and for submitting questions (https://www.sli.do). (T. Alexander Matus UW-Madison AOS PhD Defense: Brad Pierce served on the PhD committee of Alexander Matus, who passed his final oral examination on July 17, 2017 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (AOS).
