Wildfire Burning In Greenland: Imagery from Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-16 Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI), Terra/Aqua Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (NPP) Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) and Landsat-8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) showed the thermal signature and smoke plume from an unusually large wildfire that began burning in southwestern Greenland in late July 2017. VISITORS:

Visitor from Finnish Meteorological Institute: Dr. Aku Riihelä from the Finnish Meteorological Institute visited the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) on August 10, 2017. Aku leads an albedo project for the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Sustained and coordinated processing of Environmental Satellite data for Climate Monitoring (SCOPE-CM) program. Jeff Key (STAR) is part of that project. Dr. Riihelä met with Key, Yinghui Liu, Aaron Letterly, Rich Dworak, and Xuanji Wang to discuss Arctic surface radiation and feedback processes. (J.
