Carr Fire Pyrocumulonimbus in California: The Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) Satellite Blog documented examples of pyrocumulonimbus (pyroCb) clouds that developed from the large and deadly Carr Fire in Northern California on July 27, 2018 (http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/archives/29142). Extreme fire behavior on that day caused the Carr Fire to quickly increase in size and move closer to Redding, California -- and 1-minute imagery from Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES-16) allowed the development of consecutive pyroCb clouds to be closely monitored.
