SSEC and CIMSS Scientists in the News: Scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW) Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) and the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) provide expert commentary, interviews, and imagery to news media. In the news this week: 1) CIMSS scientist Shane Hubbard continued discussions with The Weather Channel and NBC15 on Hurricane Florence flooding and impacts. SSEC/CIMSS/ASPB Representation at EUMETSAT Satellite Conference 2018: A strong showing at the 2018 EUMETSAT Meteorological Satellite Conference from Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC), Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS), and NOAA Advanced Satellite Products Branch scientists included three keynote speakers: Hank Revercomb, Ralph Petersen, and Mike Foster.The conference was held 16-21 September 2018 in Tallinn, Estonia. One of the conference's main focuses was the new geostationary hyperspectral infrared measurement assets arriving on orbit and the exciting science challenges to come. Next year’s plan for a Joint AMS/EUMETSAT meeting, to be held 28 September - 04 October 2019 in Boston, Massachusetts, was presented. The entire list of SSEC/CIMSS presenters and chairing duties included Steve Ackerman, Paul Menzel, Andrew Heidinger, Kathleen Strabala, Jessica Braun, Allen Huang, Robert Knuteson, Ralph Petersen, William Straka, Joe Taylor, Dave Tobin, Ralf Bennartz, Andi Walther, and Wayne Feltz.  (W. ITEMS FOR THE DIVISION CHIEF, CoRP:

NOAA CI Administrators Meeting 2018: CIMSS successfully hosted the 2018 NOAA CI Administrators Meeting held on 9/17 - 9/18. There were more than twenty Administrators from 16 NOAA CIs who attended the meeting. The discussion topics included the overview of CI Re-compete; FY18 proposal submission questions; Post award management and many other interesting areas. The Administrators also discussed the newly released CI Specific Conditions - focused on the sexual harassment training and the insurance for driving a Federally-owned Vehicle. During this two-day meeting, the Administrators visited the AOSS building, Fred Best gave the group an official welcome and he introduced the history and the research of SSEC and CIMSS. Jordan Gerth gave us a fun presentation which highlighted some of his research - Shining light on cloudiness during the recent solar eclipse, and other weather satellite applications. Margaret Mooney and Peter Janssen provided a building tour after the presentation.
