UW-Madison SSEC/CIMSS Participation at the 2019 AMS Conference: Representatives from the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) and the Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) participated in the 99th Annual American Meteorological Society (AMS) meeting held the week of January 6-10, 2019 in Phoenix, Arizona. NOAA Advanced Satellite Products Branch (ASPB) staff did not attend due to government furlough travel restrictions. GOES-R and JPSS Short Courses were conducted on Sunday January 6 with Scott Lindstrom, William Straka, Chris Schmit, and Mathew Gunshor (CIMSS) helping to facilitate (see next report item). There were over 50 oral presentations and posters by SSEC and CIMSS as part of the Student Conference, 15th Symposium on New Generation Operational Environmental Satellite Systems, Improving R2O & O2R in 0-18 Hour Forecast Range, 9th Symposium on Python, 9th Symposium on Lidar Atmospheric Applications, 33rd Conference on Hydrology, 16th Conference on Space Weather, 32nd Conference on Climate Variability and Change, 18th Conference on Artificial and Computational Intelligence and its Applications to the Environmental Sciences, 28th Symposium on Education, 19th Symposium on Aviation, Range, and Aerospace Meteorology, 35th Conference on Environmental Information Processing Technologies, 23rd Conference on Integrated Observing and Assimilation Systems for the Atmosphere, Oceans, and Land Surface (IOAS-AOLS), Seventh AMS Symposium on the Joint Center for Satellite Data Assimilation. Many participated in board, committee, and other side meetings on a host of topics. Selected ‘one-page’ summaries of NOAA funded presentations will be posted at http://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/star/meetings.php with the assistance of Ralph Ferraro (STAR). In addition to the broad spectrum of presentations, SSEC once again sponsored a booth on the Exhibit Hall floor. The booth presence has occurred for at least 21 consecutive years. Demonstrations of McIDAS-V and RealEarth displaying GOES-16 and NOAA-20 imagery were prominent in the booth. The Booth also serves as a meeting space between SSEC/CIMSS scientists and colleagues in industry, education, and government. (W. Feltz, CIMSS/SSEC, 608-265-6283, wayne.feltz@ssec.wisc.edu; S. Ackerman, CIMSS/SSEC; S. Lindstrom, CIMSS)

CIMSS Participation in GOES-R Short Course at 99th AMS Meeting in Phoenix: Mat Gunshor, Scott Lindstrom, and Chris Schmidt, all from CIMSS, gave presentations and led interactive activities at the GOES-R Short Course on Forecasting Applications on Sunday 6 January 2018 at the 99th Annual Meeting of the American Meteorological Society in Phoenix. Gunshor presented information on the GOES-R ABI Sensor and its capabilities; Lindstrom presented information on GOES-R Data Distribution and Access, as well as on Forecast Applications for convective situations, and Schmidt presented information on GOES-R Fire Detection. The two dozen students included members of the military, private industry, private citizens, domestic and foreign scientists, and professional meteorologists. (M. Gunshor, CIMSS; S.
