ASPB AND CIMSS WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE WEEK ENDING JANUARY 25, 2019

IN THE PRESS:

ITEMS FOR THE ADMINISTRATOR:

ITEMS FOR THE ASSISTANT ADMINISTRATOR:

ITEMS FOR THE OFFICE DIRECTOR, STAR:

SPIE Journal of Applied Remote Sensing 2017 Best Paper Award: The Journal of Applied Remote Sensing of the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE) honored three papers recognizing interdisciplinary applications, theoretical innovation, and photo-optical instrumentation and design. "Fusion of satellite-based imager and sounder data to construct supplementary high spatial resolution narrowband IR radiances," by Elisabeth Weisz, Bryan B. Baum, and W. Paul Menzel was chosen in the category of Interdisciplinary Applications. The paper (https://doi.org/10.1117/1.JRS.11.036022) demonstrates, through a data fusion method, the ability to construct infrared absorption narrowband radiances at imager resolution from sounder measurements. (E. Weisz, CIMSS, 608-265-3954)

ITEMS FOR THE DIVISION CHIEF, CoRP:

New Training Videos for all 16 GOES-R ABI Bands: Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) scientists have created short (5 minutes or less, generally) training videos for all 16 GOES-R Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) Bands. The videos focus on the uses of the individual bands. These were produced with funding from the GOES-R Program and are designed to supplement current broader training on the ABI Bands, and to replace, eventually, some older Satellite Hydrology and Meteorology (SHyMet) modules that still reference legacy GOES (12-15) data. They are available at https://www.ssec.wisc.edu/~scottl/SHyMet/. (S. Lindstrom, CIMSS, 608 263 4425; S. Bachmeier, CIMSS; M. K. Bah, CIMSS; M. Gunshor, CIMSS; T. Schmit, NOAA/STAR)
